Portrait of Thorsten Holz, new MPI-SP scientific director

Systems security expert Thorsten Holz joins the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy in July. His research focuses on improving the resilience of complex software systems against emerging threats, enabling the development of robust and secure architectures that are essential for building trustworthy digital systems. Holz is widely recognized not only for his work on software security but also for applying his research to solve real-world problems, such as improving memory safety or understanding how humans interact with systems. more

MPI-SP’s partner institution CASA receives funding for another seven years from DFG

Over 80% of MPI-SP’s Faculty are also part of the CASA Excellence Cluster, making CASA one of the main research partners of MPI-SP. Yesterday, the German Research Foundation (DFG) announced that CASA will receive another 7 years of funding. more

MPI-SP Success Story: Alessandro Fabris becomes assistant professor at University of Trieste

Until February 2025, Alessandro Fabris was a postdoctoral researcher in the Responsible Computing Group at the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy. In March, he began the next chapter of his career as an assistant professor at the University of Trieste. Before he left, Alessandro answered a few questions about his time at the institute and his experience in Germany. more
