Symposium on Challenges in a Digitalised Society
The MPI-SP 2025 Symposium on Challenges in a Digitalised Society brought together experts from security, privacy, law, demography, and many other disciplines to explore critical issues such as algorithmic accountability, digital inequality, and data governance.
The two days were filled with insightful talks and productive scientific discussions. Six Keynote presentations deep-dived into topics such as AI governance, privacy, and human-technology interactions. The highlight of the event was the panel discussion titled “Deep dive into technical, behavioral, and governance perspectives,” which focused on ethical and legal challenges in decision-making, governance, and fairness in the age of AI.

The students attending the event had a chance to feature their research in engaging poster sessions and a series of student talks. They also had a chance to discuss about their future careers and get advice from established researchers during the mentoring session.
“It was very important for us to bring together people from different disciplines who are passionate about this critical issue in our society. It was a great chance to exchange ideas, share diverse perspectives, and foster a truly engaging community,” says Meeyoung Cha, one of the organizers of the event. “We also wanted to ensure that this event is beneficial to the students. Engaging with more experienced scientists and being part of the conversation can be incredibly motivating for young researchers.”
