Two new recognitions for members of MPI-SP

Asia Biega and Mia Cha were recognized for the advancements in their respective fields

Tenure-track Faculty Member Asia Biega was named one of the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for the year 2025. Women in AI Ethics TM is a volunteer-led and small-donor funded organization with the mission of increasing recognition, representation, and empowerment of brilliant women in STEM. The “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics” is a list published yearly that highlights pioneers and rising stars who actively promote the adoption of ethical and responsible AI.

Scientific Director Mia Cha was named an ACM Distinguished Member “for contributions to computational social science research on misinformation, fraud detection, and poverty mapping.” This distinction is given to ACM members with significant technical achievements who have served as role models or mentors to younger professionals. The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is a volunteer-driven organization of computing educators, researchers, and professionals from around the Globe.
