Dr. Kavous Salehzadeh Niksirat

SPRING: Security and Privacy Engineering
I am a Postdoctoral Fellow (Scientist) at the SPRING Lab, Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy (MPI‐SP). I hold a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from Kochi University of Technology, Japan, and bring extensive postdoctoral research experience from the University of Lausanne and EPFL, Switzerland.

  • My research focuses on user-centered privacy solutions in social media and wearable technologies, leveraging empirical HCI methods and participatory design.
  • A significant part of my work explores interdependent privacy—how individuals’ privacy is shaped by the actions and decisions of others in shared digital environments.
  • I also investigate digital health interventions, particularly in mental well-being and digital contact tracing.
  • My work reflects a strong commitment to research integrity, ethics, and transparency—values for which I actively advocate within the HCI community.
  • I am an active contributor to prestigious venues like CHI, CSCW, and PETS. I have received several distinctions, including Best Paper and Honorable Mention awards.
