Gilles Barthe appointed honorary doctor by Chalmers University of Technology
Gilles Barthe receives honorary doctor degree “for revolutionizing the area of cryptography” by Chalmers University of Technology
The Faculty Senate of Chalmers University of Technology from Sweden awards the title of honorary doctor to scientists with a significant professional achievement who have established research collaborations with Swedish academics.
Gilles Barthe was a researcher at Chalmers from 1997 to 1998 and has, since then, conducted many successful research collaborations with colleagues from Sweden. He receives this recognition for his outstanding contributions to the field of cryptography, notably his work on developing high-impact machine-checked frameworks used to construct and verify cryptographic systems. He shares the Chalmers distinction with astronaut Marcus Wandt and mathematician Helen Byrne.
“I am deeply honored by this distinction. I am grateful to my colleagues and collaborators for our collective achievements and I am looking forward to many fruitful collaborations in the future” said Barthe when getting the news of the award. As a founding director of MPI-SP, Barthe has established the “Principles of Security and Privacy” Group, where he and his team develop programming languages techniques and verification methods for cryptography.
